MERCURY-FREE FLOAT SWITCHES

Jola Spezialschalter's mercury-free float switches for level sensing are designed for a wide range of installations and, thanks to their variability, can be fitted to specific installations according to customer requirements. The products are also available in versions that are suitable for explosive environments.

The switching element is a potential-free ball micro switch and a gold-plated contact, for low-voltage applications an AgNi contact is used. A characteristic feature is that this contact can reliably switch even the smallest voltages and currents even after long periods of downtime. An unfavorable characteristic is that the layer can burn out after a single overload or the gold layer can be distorted or destroyed during extremely frequent switching. In both cases, the reliability of the lowest voltage switching decreases. Therefore, 2 aspects must be focused on in the selection process:

1. float switch is rarely in service but should work reliably after several years → AC/DC 1 V - AC/DC 42 V design
2. float switch is in permanent operation → AC/DC 24 V - AC/DC 250 V version

These floats can be used as level sensors and thus select their function at switching moments. They can therefore be used for pump control, overfill protection and dry running, level indication (water, wastewater, liquid chemicals, oils, hydrocarbons, etc.)

Normally these floats are installed from the top or side. The floats are fixed in position by various means - weights (internal/external), plugs, guide tube or flanges. 

The main considerations for the correct selection of the type of float suitable for installation are: 

Tank dimensions and installation conditions, type of fluid, viscosity, temperature, specific gravity of the fluid, operating pressure and swirl in the tank.
